Hakka Lui Cha @ Jinjang Selatan

My quest for the best lui cha in town has taken me to many outlets. A couple of my friends told me that the best one is in Jinjang Selatan. So i googled "Jinjang Selatan Lui Cha", and other variations, but nothing came out. Then an idea struck me. I googled "增江擂茶" and voila, I got something!

You can choose either brown rice or the usual polished rice. I went for brown rice like I always do. You can also choose to have dried shrimp or none.

The soup is warm, thick and fragrant!

Really really generous amount of ingredients. In fact, as soon as I dug in, I realized that there were way more ingredients than rice :D.

You will notice that four angled beans (kacang botol) and cilantro are part of the ingredients too. Hmm..how did they know that I love four angled beans!

I chose brown rice. Only RM6 for this big bowl filled to the brim with generous amount of ingredients!

The name of this restaurant is actually Lui Cha King Restaurant. I actually wanted to try the one in Jinjang Selatan but it was closed today. So I ended up at this one in Kepong Baru. But it was still not open at around 930am! Anyway, I came back in the afternoon and finally got my Lui Cha fix :D

Claypot Tilapia @ Taman Sri Sinar

This shop has no name and is somewhere behind Plaza Sri Sinar.

Really great claypot tilapia (sang pou fei chao yu). Not a slightest hint of muddy taste at all. Just nice and fresh with lots of minced ginger.

Although it says 11:30am to 10:00 pm, I notice that it's not open in between after lunch to before dinner.

They sell Bak Kut Teh too but I have never tried it. I hope to try it soon!

Price: RM20.30 for the fish, rice and iced herbal drink. The boss gave me a 30 sen discount so I paid only RM20. Really good price for a nice, fresh fish like this, with rice and one iced herbal drink! I should come here more often!

This place is just right next to my favorite BBQ chicken wing stall, and only a stone's throw from my favorite Hor Poh Hakka Restaurant.

Lui Cha Manjalara

My first experience with Lei Cha / Lui Cha was about a year or two ago in Hor Poh Tmn Sri Sinar. I found it quite pleasant and healthy so I have been looking to trying this dish from other restaurants/stalls ever since. A friend told me about this place some time ago and before long, I was there to check it out.

Lei Cha / Lui Cha. Stir, Pour, and Eat :)

Hakka Lui Cha. Some say the corn shouldn't be there. It didn't bother me at all though.

I don't like to pour the whole bowl of soup into my rice mixture so it's just one spoonful at a time for me :D

Price: RM5.50. There was probably a little bit of MSG in it as I felt slightly thirsty a while after eating this but not to the extend that would bother me. The broth was probably slightly watery compared to the one I had in Hor Poh Tmn Sri Sinar, but it wouldn't be fair to compare a RM10 a bowl lui cha to a RM5.50 one.

It's just a rustic roadside stall, about two stalls away from Tuck Kee dim sum. Open for lunch only. I was there at about 2:30pm on day and it was still open. I was there on a Thursday and it was closed! I will try to find out more on the operation hours.

This place is probably less than 1km from Tesco Kepong/Manjalara.

Penang One Bandar Puteri Puchong

A friend of mine told me about this Penang One restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong that trucks in authentic Penang hawker food on a daily basis. Needless to say, I had to check it out!

Flipping through the menu, you see that you can get your usual Penang's favorite hawker food like asam laksa, hokkien mee (prawn mee), curry mee, duck meat koay teow th'ng, cendol, ais kacang, or kueh (yam cake), chee cheong fun, and of course, char koay teow - all under one roof. More items are being added to the menu from what the owner told me!

The owner and the staff speak Penang Hokkien too!

Anyway, it was about 1:30pm when we ordered. We had our lunch earlier at noon but still, we wanted to try some authentic Penang food. Early afternoon snack, if you will :D
